It was crucial for the addition to enhance and complete the home’s Federation architecture when viewed from any perspective. A detailed re-assessment of outdoor living habits; combined with our client’s request for a swimming pool, highlighted the need design an outdoor living space which integrated itself positively with the rest of the home; whilst maintaining good visual connection with the home’s most frequented living zones.
-The alterations and additions were been sympathetically designed to fully integrate with the home’s existing character through reference to key architectural forms and features present.
-The new kitchen, meals and family zone completely transformed this aspect of the home, creating a space that’s open and light.
-The parents regained their sanity and all children are happily bedded down on the upper level.
-Meticulous attention to detail ensured the residence has maintained its’ period charm.
-Once completed one cannot distinguish existing from new.
-The effectiveness and cost efficiency of this project, in association with the maintenance of architectural style and charm make this an award winning home.
A fundamental approach to any heritage design is to understand and appreciate the many different aspects of a period home including scale, form, geometry, construction techniques and materials just to name a few. It is crucial that a design to a heritage building does not simply mimic materials of the existing building alone, but takes an involved an in depth analysis of an existing home’s defining elements before design; and to continue to relate the design back to the existing home throughout the design process.
